I am having a major problem, and I am not sure what is going on. All was well until this morning when I discovered my battery was about dead. After getting my 99 Expy started, I discovered that when I turn the key to the "off" position, the radio stays on, and sound goes to the speakers, and the odometer/gauges stay on as well? WTF??? I need some help please. For now, I have d/c'd the negative cable until I can resolve this to avoid a dead battery.
Thank you those who replied earlier about my "door ajar" problem. WD40 did the trick.
Since I have not been around very long I will take the time to answer. The stereo should stay on after you shut the truck off. as long as you dont open the door it should stay on for a minute or so. You can also roll your windows up and down. You didnt mention how recent any of your charging system components are, so I am guessing it is stock. If that is the case, it is possible that you have been paying more attention since your battery lost charge. Its the time of the year when batteries start going bad.
Based on my limited knowledge, if the stereo never shuts off then it could be your gem. Do a search for gem and you will find more info than any single post could share.
Well, I think the underhood fuse box is taking on moisture somehow. I duct taped several trashbags around the underhood fuse box, and its been a few days now and all is a-okay.
