Hello all, my wifes 01 sporttrac has been having problems holding a charge for the last couple of weeks.Park it at night and in the morning the battery is dead,not even enough juice in it for the interior lights to come on.The guage on the dash shows that it is charging(needle is to the high side of the guage).I have not put a meter on anything yet.We replaced the battery last week and thought it was fixed but today the same thing happened again.The only abnormal things that she has noticed is the clock in the radio display stays on even after the key is removed and the doors are closed and sometimes she hears a clicking sound from what she thinks is the radio or behind the radio behind the dash.Should this clock always be on? I will be looking at the truck tonight when she gets home and am looking on advise as to where to start.I hate electrical issues. Sorry about this long winded post.
I don't think your clock should stay on, it doesn't in my '92 or '03 Ex. You can start by pulling the fuse to the radio and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, you know which circuit needs work. If it doesn't, you'll need to pull fuses one at a time to see which circuit is the problem one. An amp meter hooked in series with the battery makes this easier.
Thanks for the reply Jerry. The wife took it back to sears(thats where she bought the new battery) and they performed a drain test .They found a drain in the electrical system at or thru the memory saver?? Any thoughts or suggestions on where to start?? Thanks in advance for your help.
What memory saver? On the radio, or on the PCM? Either way it sounds like it's in the internal electronics, but the radio is cheaper and easier to disable than the PCM.
