My '05 350 has never been off of pavement. What about you guys? I'm not bragging, because it's almost dysfunctional owning a SD and never taking it off the pavement. It's just that I can picture all that mud in the little crevasses where I can't get it washed out of. I would lay awake at night stressing over that. I dropped a nickel the other day between my console and seat and I almost wanted to tear the seats out looking for it. Maybe I need to lay back, pop the top on a beer and not sweat the small stuff
I agree, a super duties #1 job is work. Towing and hauling is what they were designed for. So don't feel bad about not tooling in the woods with a $40k vehicle and denting a rocker panel on a stump.
Mine goes offroad a few times a month as I haul firewood from work to home.
Mostly my super duty live a cushy live. Rarely tows but hauls mostly. Firewook in the winter and loam, stone, brick, and mulch in the summer.
after I first purchased my truck I went on a trip to a friends cabin(40 Miles off road). It still had the stock tires with 80psi in them. I almost needed two sets of false teeth when that ride was finished.
I am a heavy equipment operator and drive my truck off road on a daily basis. The truck does a great job off road except the garbage tires it has on it. The good thing for me is that I have a Cat 963 or komatsu PC400 to pull it out if it gets stuck. The 05 is my first truck I have had to pull out with a tractor. I know when I get rid of the Conti's I will have no problems.
Cant wait to wear my Conti's out so I can get some real tires to play in the mud! I brought it up with HQ only a month after spending $45k on the truck and guess what she said...
My 06' F-350 with the 6.0,,has mud on it now, had to pull my equip. trailer with staging on it,,it was warm,,not frozen on top,,,,about 4" of goo, had to get the staging close to the job ya-know,,,,with the windows open,,,tis a great sound to hear the turbo-whine,,,just backing the trailer up in the mud,,making it work just a little,,oh yeah,,truck only has 580 miles on it now,,break it in right,,
My '05 F350 CC DRW FX4 has been off road a few times. I use it to haul our ATVs to our riding spot out in the SoCal desert, and I've taken it up to the local mountains on the fire roads and even on snowy roads and it handles that terrain just fine. But I don't think I'll try it in the mud or really heavy stuff. That long wheelbase and wide chassis just isn't made for hardcore offroading.
