starter 'spins'
Just replaced the starter two months ago with a Napa re-mfg. New battery. Good starting with the Petronix deal lately as well.
When it catches and cranks, starts right up.
This all happened from one day to the next. But then it happened three times today, worse each time.
I'm sure this has been posted before but I couldn't find what I needed. I have no problem pulling the starter out and replacing it, but I wanted advice on what problem to look for.
Also, if shims are needed, what exactly am I shimming and where should they go? (ie I've replaced the starter and seen shims in the store, but never shimmed the starter). Any other advice? Ground cable is good and clean, tight contacts.

66F100s Rule
In the cool still quiet of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
1) Low battery. But you say your battery is fully charged..
2) Starter Bendix is not engaging due to broken spring, or it's binding on the shaft.
3) Bad tooth on flywheel. You say starts OK when it works, so probably # 2 is primary problem.
Take starter back where you bought it and have them test it completely. This probably won't show up on the test bench, (Murphy's Law) so get another starter.

Still under warranty, so first repair that didn't cost me dime.
