Can anyone tell me where the fuel filter is located on a 03 Mountaineer? I followed the fuel lines and lost them above the tank. Surely it's not above the tank is it?
You should be able to quickly check if it IS in the tank.
There will be an access plate in the rear floor to get service/repair access to the gauge sender and fuel lines. Usually a couple of sheetmetal screws or setscrews keeping a shaped piece of time down. Easily visible under the rear floor mats.
Lift the inspection cover and if you still can't see it, twist the fuel gauge sender unit a quarter turn anti-clockwise and lift the whole deal 'till yu can see under it. If the filter's there, you'll see it I think.
Hope this helps.
If its the same as the '02 expolrer follow the fuel lines from the tank, along the frame, to the front, on the passenger side where the line go up to tehe engine. compartment. Lower fire wall passenger side. I can only see it looking up from under the vehicle.
Found it! FYI for those who like to do their own maintenance. The filter on a '03 Mountaineer is on the passenger side behind a shield and attached to the front side of the fuel tank, not the frame rail. I was about to give up when my light shined on the end of the canister. Another FYI, the filter is a 2 lines in and 1 line out type (4.6 V8 anyway, I'm not sure about the V6).
