Question looking to upgrade

I currently have a 2000 f250 sc v10 4x4 with a 5 speed and3.73 gears. I am looking to upgrade to a crew cab f350 with a six speed. I tow a 13,000 lb toy hauler (2 quads and a jeep inside). I have read a few other threads that say the new v10s are kind of slugish I was curious to hear from people that own the newer v10, and how are the new 3 valve v10s verses the 2valve motors for pulling and fuel economy. My current v10 pulls the load fine and I am hoping it will be a good upgrade. A powerstroke isn't really an option I own a 6.0 crewcab (work truck) and it doesn't tow the load any better than my v10 so why waste $5000. I have been nothing but happy with my current pickup and don't want to get anthing i would be dissapointed in. Any input would be very much appreciated

Welcome!

What year F-350 are you looking at?

If you are happy with your 2V and 3.73s, I'm sure you'll be more than pleased with the 2V w/4.30s. Add the new 3V to the mix and WOW!

Well all I can go by is the numbers.

The new 3V make more peak torque (30) and HP (52) at the SAME RPM's as the 2V. Add 4.30s and that 6-speed and you'll have a towing MONSTER!

I have gathered that the new V10 when NEW is sluggish but by 7-10K miles runs MUCH better. That was certainly true of my 2V V10 in my current Excursion.

I do remember thta my 2 valve ran better as it got more miles it. 4.30 gears sound low i do like to cruise the freeway at 70 to 75 will that make it run at a very high rpm cruising

got a 05 3valve v10 here and it's full out right animalafter a good tuner was snaped into as if it was not before that,
you are going to get a lot of us 3 valve motors here and you can take our words a new v10 in a super duty with 4:30 gears you will be so amazed to what a different truck your driving.
i see you are a new user and in OR. so you are in for a good deal, go up into the new ford buyer section and contact pollarbear "ernie" by pm or email. he handles the special fte member deal that we can get on the west coast. it will be the best deal you can get and a sales man who will treat as you should be.
good luck .again the 05/6 v10 is something unreal

no it does not in fact the 3v,v10 gets better mpgs and performance with the 4:30's

fredvon4,wrenchtraveler, nisar, myself and about 20 more guys in here with the new 3v ,v10's you will not beleive how much change put into the new s/d when you compair it to your old. the 4:30 do not make it rev high on the highway due to the torqeshift 5r110 trans or the 6 speed manual. get your self the auto as ford has built much better towing capibilitys into like engine braking when in towhaul mod which is just a push of the botton.

I have never really liked autos vey much but I will certainly drive one. I very rarely drive in town (hermit/hilbilly) and have always like the manual better for towing

There's nothing wrong with the auto, but then, there's nothing wrong with the stick either. My stick runs 70 mph at 2200 rpm with the stock 4.10. I think the 4.30 is only a couple hundred rpm more.

It may seem counter intuitive, but the lower gears, like the 4.30, will actually give you better miles per gallon when towing, due to turning fewer rpm to deliver the necessary horsepower/ torque. When unloaded though, the taller gears do give you a little better gas mileage. Even so, people swear the gas difference between the 4.10 and the 4.30 is only about .5 mpg unloaded. Since 2005 you can't get the 3.73 with the V-10.

By the way, the auto does give you an extra 1,000 pounds GCWR over the stick, if that matters for your usage.

My 06 with the auto and 18 inch wheels, 70mph is 2300 on the tach.

No I haven't towed yet. Next weekend I am going to haul my 3000 pound camper over the mountain Coyote hunting, but that only aroung 11000 gross weight and that won't even be a test. The truck has 1800 miles on the odometer. I love the 4.30 gears the truck moves so easy I had to retrain my throttle foot.
