Hey all you singers, actors, directors and public amusement figures, shut up.
If I wanted you to go to Iraq, run our military and dictate foreign policy, I would have voted for you. I DIDN’T. You are not qualified, you know less about our military and foreign policy that Bill Clinton did/does.
Sean Penn flying to Iraq, Cheryl Crow wearing a T-shirt message to George-W, Sinead O'Conner, all of you shut up.
Those who buy the music, pay for and watch the movies, and otherwise support these cottonheads, are just as responsible for this irresponsible behavior. Boycott these "entertainers", and you will not be supporting their idiotic political views.
Though I do disagree with a lot of these idiots that go around and do the Hanoy Jane thing, I will support there right to do this till the end. Without the right to protest, and I do mean protest in any way, shape or fourm that is within the law, America would be not be the last great world power.
We must accept the fact that others are going to have a 180* seperation in views from our own. To those people that are willing to show that view I say, "Your view sucks, but your actions are indeed 100% within your rights,And I respect the fact you had the ba*** to stand up for what you believe in."
I 100% disagree with their views, but I will not disrespect the person or what he/she has done.
You've gotta point there Wayne , but I have a point too. Recently there were laws passed under the guise of Campaign Finance Reform that were supported by people of the beliefs held by those Ranger mentioned. The laws were meant to keep big money, the NRA, and other large conservative groups out of politics for the last 60 days before elections, and to not allow us to contribute money in any old way we want to. That leaves only the liberl media and the hollywood stars with their Op-Ed pieces (which were exempt from the laws because of the free press). If they are going to try and take away or first amendment rights in this way, then they need to sit down and shut up as well and not use their fame, status, and wealth to promote their agenda when we're not allowed to. It goes both ways. EVERYTHING is a special interest, not just conservative viewpoints.
Now I know there are going to be people that will say, yeah but it won't hold up in the Supreme Court so it doesn't matter, and you're right, it won't hold up, but that's not the issue, they want to shut us up and they will do anything they can to accomplish it. Others will say that Bush signed it and some republicans voted for it too, but Bush only signed cuz he knew it wouldn't hold up and he made a political calculation to take the issue away from the liberals.
Maybe they need to be told off and told to shut up to get the point. I'm not saying they don't have the right to yap, they do, but they certainly believe that we shouldn't have the right and that they should. Either we can too, or they can't either. I'm sorry if I offend anyone, I just want to make sure the playing field stays fair is all.
what a tough deal i agree totally with the first post and understand the above and have to agree there too. its just the fact that i still can't get the image of jane fonda joking with the soldiers from the peoples republic of vietnam. i suspect we are lucky to be americans and are able to have this forum in the first place.
I want to protect everyone's right to free speech, too, but when their actions appear to be re-shaping our country's foreign policy, well........even this proud ol' Democrat has a problem with that. Free speech and protesting within our own borders is one thing; attempting to represent our government and it's policies as something they're not to a foreign power is scary territory.
Take it easy, fellas. If Sean Penn and his ilk can really cause this nation to go down, then we deserve it. I've never met anyone that changed their vote because of what some Hollywood cream-puff spouted, have youse?
Way too many people receive their personal opinions thru the TV, and then try to defend them to the death. For a great read, check out "Code of the Lifemaker" by James P Hogan - it's not nearly as goofy as the title sounds.
