Air Bag Light?

Got my air bag light coming on and staying on, well after it goes through a series of annoying flashes at me. Any help? All the book says is " Get serviced Immediately"

Count the flashes.

It should be a two digit code.

Witht the code, it can be looked up to see what the fault is.

Identify your vehicle by year, engine, etc.

all right... counted the blinks... looks like a 27... this is a 2000 F150 with a 4.2 liter 6, 140k on it. I found my codes, but none are two digits... so now trying to find the F150 codes that are 2 digit... any help would be appreciated..

Does your light come on every time you start your truck? My truck is now putting out the same code, but it only does this about once a week maybe. If my light comes on, i turn the truck off and restart and it stays off.

You light has burned out, and according to everything I've read that causes an error in the system. I've read about guys going to radio Shack and picking up a $1.50 bulb and wiring it in (at the pass air bag "off" light ) and that fixes the problem. I havn't check Ford or Auto Zone etc to see if they offer a replacement bulb, so you may want to.

Bingo!

The restraints Control Module (RCM) cannot successfully test the lamp in the PAD switch assy.

Burned out bulb is the most likely cause. Other causes are the RCM or a wiring harness fault. Ford will only have the entire PAD switch, not the bulb.

Be certain to disable the airbag system by disconnecting the battery and waiting at least one minute before performing ANY repairs on the system. Serious injury can result from accidental airbag deployment.

Does anyone have a procedure for removing the PAD bulb circuit? I am ok with soldering in a new bulb but don't know exactly how to access the unit before replacement. I'm sure I could figure it out but it is cold here in Wisconsin this time of year & I don't have a heated garage to work in so it would behoove me have this info prior to an attempt. Thanx!
