Have you ever considered using some other kind of bulliten board software?
Like UBB maybe? That's what I have used the most. Seems to be one of the best options out there.

I'll be upgrading to the latest version of DCForum in the next week or so. The new version is very similar to UBB but has a ton more features, including interfacing with ICQ. Can't ditch the current software because there's a year and a half of postings on it.
Besides, UBB is feature poor, has poor admin tools and is a CPU hog. You can check out what the latest version of DCForum looks like at http://www.dcscripts.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi . I think you'll agree its a winner.
