Forgiveness

How forgiving of a person are you when it comes to your friends and family? Do you react differently depending on the person/how major the thing was they did?

I usually try to be understanding with family, so I try to let things go as much as I can. I guess it depends on what the situation is.

Well I suppose it depends on whom in my family you talk to, most of the time I am very forgiving but after awhile of hte same stuff over and over and over, and over I get tired of it and then it takes a lot.

It depends on the person. Person A gets mad at Person B for doing something Person A did yesterday or is going to do tomorrow (Family usually fits in this category) I get mad.
Friends I am pretty forgiving usually.
Strangers can stick it.

How forgiving I am depends on the situation. Typically I dont forgive that easily and I never forget, even if the wrong was forgivin.

Depends on the value you place on the relationship and if you are willing to risk losing it.

Like my wife often tells / asks me..."Do you want to be happy? Or do you want to be right?"

Family. . . . My parents are getting 'up there' in age. They are the ones that usually forgive ME.
My only remaining sibling. . . nah. We have NEVER gotten along.

Friends. . . . The way I was told, "People will come and go, in your lifetime. Those people that do stupid stuff with you, and then don't hold it against you, are your friends. Those that are only around in the good times, are not your friends. Those people that have helped you laugh when the chips are down are your true friends."

Bottom line: I'll forgive a friend, but I'll never (completely) trust that person again if they do me wrong. (I have a 'friend' like that, now.)
Fool me once, shame on you - - - fool me twice, shame on me!

It all depends on whether I warned them previously. You can guess the rest.

i take every situation as it comes.it may get under my skin at first, but i never stay mad very long, and i never hold a grudge. it isnt worth holding on to the wrongful doings of others.if i am wrong,i hope to be forgiven,so i feel i owe the same forgivness to others. family and friends are more important than staying angery, and not offering forgivness.-billy

I have been less forgiving with long time friends these last 2 years because of the things they did.

I consider myself a very forgiving person.

***** Nelson has a song that says it all - "Forgiving you is easy but forgetting seems to take the longest time".

Bingo! Forgiveness isn't about letting the other person off the hook, it's really about letting yourself off the hook. In other words, I try not to let what you do to me create permanent feelings (anger, vengefulness, helplessness) that will hold me hostage, or tarnish my existence.

Note: Please, the following is NOT directed at any of the previous posts, JMHO. This is a subject that interests me.

The ironic thing about holding a grudge or taking a self-righteous attitude is that people do it to retain a sense of power when they feel like they've been wronged (where by definition, power is taken from you). But in reality, as long as one stays angry, the other person is still affecting them...holding the power.

I also won't let someone "fool me twice", or be a doormat for anyone...but I'll do it as calmly but firmly as possible.

I refuse to become one of those persons so polarized, so hung up on being "right" or hung up on not being "disrespected" that they are terminally angry and/or self-righteous, finding insult where there is none. They are the truly weak, letting the world dictate their moves. And they spread violence and misery wherever they go.

Life is too short to be like that.

I'm a Scorpio to the bone. Truly dedicated to those I love and trust. Cross me or hurt me and that's it! Usually, I'm pretty happy and easy going, but if someone or something upsets me badly, it takes a LONG time for that wound to heal. And forgiveness... it all depends on what was said or done. It makes me angry that I hold anger so long, sometimes. ( Was that a redundant sentence?)

I'd love to be able to say that I can easily forgive someone for any given reason and some folks I can... simple hurts or simple stupidity can sometimes be forgotten quickly, but personal attacks or people who like to do harm to cats or dogs....nope..on my list forever.
