Finally the weather broke enough for me to finish removing my front cover on my 86 Ford dually 460. I have been curious to see what timing set was lurking under the cover. Behold it is a Cloys double roller 7* retarded set installed in the 4* advance position. Ran to my parts place and ordered the 0* Cloyes set. Woundering why the guy installed a retarded one and if along with the performer intake did he install the performer cam? Shure dont feel like finding out at this point. Maybe next season. Hoping for a bit of an economy improvent moving the cam to 0*.
I agree with brad, but the funny thing is you might not be installing the cam straight up even putting in the straight up timing set. The old one setup like that might have actually been in the straight up position if you were to check it.
I used the FRPP double roller timing chain which is supposed to be the earlier setup but when I degreed the cam on the 0 position it ended up actually 3 degrees advanced, but when I put it on the 2 deg retard position it was 1 degree retarded, and I checked both positions 2 times to make sure I was reading that right.
basically what I am saying is without degreeing the cam you will never know were it really is.

Stock cam or aftermarket cam? Some are designed with adv or retard built in the cam.
Cheapest bang for the buck is buy a 351 and put it in the truck. 460s are not economy motors by anybodys estimation. Then again and overdrive on the rear of the tranny is only about $1800 from GearVenders and would give you the best of both worlds.
