1987 f150 No start

I have a 1987 ford f150 with a 302 efi and I can not figure out what is wrong with it. I was out driving it one day and when I turned it stalled. I could not get it started again. It first the fuel pumps would not run. So i switched the relays eec and the fuel pump relays. Now the fuel pumps run. So leads me to believe bad relay. So before i got to go get a new relay i decide to try to start it. Ok now is what i dont understand. when i turn the key to the on postion the fuel pumps come on for 2 second like there are suppose to then they shut off for about 5 seconds and then restart. this is with out me trying to start it. So I try to start it with the fuel pumps running. no go. I get fuel to the rail. when the pumps are on but when the shut off no pressure at all. It should hold pressure right. And it will run on ether till it runs out. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

i could be wrong i dont have the info handy right now but yor pressure regulator should hold X psi of fuel for 10 min i wnat to say around 30-50. hang on maybe someone else can give you better info.my understanding is the regulator is a check valve it lets the pressure in but has a slow leakdown.with a constant amont of fuel avalible in the rail for ease of restarting

Thanks for the advice but would a bad connection cause the pumps to come on after priming themselves?

this is just a thought what if your fuel was returning to the tank because of a faulty regulator and the pump was kicking back on to compensate.though i am not sure there is a fuel return line. i mess with more diesel than gas engines
