I have to use Balwin filters as the previous owner was a Balwin dealer and over the course of time the OEM lid was not left with the truck on trade in, thus, I don't have the $50 genuine Ford lid...yes thats right, Ford wants $50 just for the lid. Balwins come with lid attached and are costing me about $24 apiece. I change every 10k miles.
I usuall don't have much luck at the junk yards, but I did just see two PSD trucks ('04 and '05) a week or so ago. Most of the body parts were stripped and one was just the cab, but the other still had the engine there. I bet I could have gotten the air filter lid for next to nothing. I'll head back Monday and grab it if it is still there. Its yours if you want it, if not I'll hold onto it "just in case."

Wouldn't the '04 & '05 trucks have the 6.0 in them?

Ooo, yep. Sorry I wasn't thinking (it was late last night when I posted). I did go by today and both trucks are gone. I don't know if someone bought the remains or what. In fact, I really don't know what happens to vehicles like this after the junk yard - I guess they get compacted. But these were both really new trucks, I would think even the one cab-only would have some value for rebuilding another truck. And I would think someone would want to pull the engine from the other truck.
