Replacing the alternator/regulator....

My 1995 E150 conversion van has the 5.8L w/E4OD showing 187K miles. I'm replacing the alternator/regulator as a unit (and possibly the serpentine belt and belt tensioner) and wonder what is the proper proceedure for the alternator swap. Is there anything that I need to disconnect besides the battery while installing the alternator/regulator? Don't want to ruin/fry anything! Thanks!

Well, take the ground off the battery first for one. Otherwise that thick cable coming off the alternator is still hooked straight to the battery and will melt if it touches ground.

For mine, it was remove the air intact. Put a 1/2" socket wrench on the torsioner from beneath, give it a tug, have somebody else remove the belt. Then loosen 3 bolts on the altenator. It wasn't that bad of a job.
