how do I set my driveshaft angles.

Hi, I just got my 2000 X back from the tranny shop and now I have a heavy vibration under my feet at around 70mph, From what I understand from doing a search here on vibration is that the shaft that comes out of the transfer case is out of wack. So how do I set it back were it should be.Could a drivesahft shop do it. Any help would be great or suggestion were to get this taken care of would be outstanding. Also, I just ordered a new y-pipe, My 2000 X has some serious flutter from that weird y-pipe resonace, hope to get rid of this problem once and forall.

Thansks , Jesse

Unless you put a lift in your truck the angle shouldn't of changed... When i built my lifted trucks I used a magnetic angle finder and adjusted the angle by wedging the rear axel. The only way that the angle of your transfer case could of changed is if your tranny mount was put in incorrectly then your whole engine tranny and transfercase would be shifted out of wack. I would look at maybe remounting the driveshaft. Is it tight? Just some things to check. You say the vibration is under your feet that may be your torque converter. Better yet take it back to the tranny shop and tell em it never did this before they messed with it.

Agreed, take it back to the shop. It sounds like they failed to maintain U-joint and driveshaft relationships/orientation while they had your tranny out.

On the other hand, your differential's pinion shaft should be at the same tilt or angle as your transfer case output shaft. One can buy angled shims for placing in the leaf spring stacks from places like Summit Racing or JEG's. Some folks will also attempt to tilt the engine/transmission/transfer case assembly to get the desired angle ... but doing this shouldn't be necessary in a stock-height vehicle.

Your dive shaft is out of "Phase"

The tranny shop most likely failed to mark the drive shaft slip joint when they removed the rear drive shaft.
When they re-assembled the shaft the U-joints aren't aligned.
Hold a long straight edge along the drive shaft the u-joint caps should line up on both ends of the drive shaft. If they don't take it back to the transmission shop and show them that the drive shaft is out of phase. once they get it back in phase put some match marks on the drive shaft at the slip joint.

I would sure hope your tranny shop unbolted the drive shaft rather then pulling it out of the spline. I have never pulled mine apart but most of the driveshafts I ever had apart were keyed so the slip joint could not be inserted incorrectly. Its easy enough to check though.

Its scary to think that a "professional" tranny shop would cut corners like pulling out a slip joint with a crimped on rubber boot on a balanced driveshaft rather then just removing the 4 bolts that hold the flange on.

Keep us informed things like this make the decision to fix my vechicles myself easier.
