Google search "Explorer v8 swap" or even the same with a Ranger and you'll get all you need.

Yes, it can be done. It has been done quite a few times, to boot. It is some work, though. Good bye to the tranny for sure.

The 302 swap into a Ranger/Explorer won't provide a lot of increased power, however, it's probably the easiest engine swap to attempt into either truck. The 302, especially one from another Exploder, isn't too difficult to fit at all.

If you can find a 302/5.0L powered donor Explorer, you have everything you need to just drop it in.

However, you haven't driven mine. Or a lot of others.

I tow a 4500 lb fifth wheel with a pushrod 4.0 B series, and have towed a 4500lb (ish) trailer with a 302 powered Mountaineer. Very different power from the 302. It's like night and day.

HIs 302 must have only been running on 6 of the 8 cylinders.
