After replacing the battery, I notice the small battery light on the instrument panel stays lit for a few seconds after the truck starts. Being a new ford owner, I'm not sure what this means. The truck is a '94 f-450 with 460 motor. Anyone have any thoughts?
Put a charger on the battery to ensure that it is fully charged. Instructions with some Ford alternators state that the battery must be at full charge for the new alternator to work correctly.
This also seems to vary from truck to truck. My friend's F150 does this... you start the truck and the voltage gauge moves at a medium speed to where it should be, as does the voltmeter I put across his battery out of curiosity.
My crewcab on the other hand, once the engine catches it zooms right up to 1000 RPM during warm up and the voltage gauge "snaps" to 13.7 V and stays there "no matter what", verified with a voltmeter across the battery of course.
I wouldn't worry about this, unless the check engine light and the voltmeter swing down when you're idling.
