Cool manual tranny installation

any hints on how to line the tranny back up to put it in? It's a '88 f150 4 speed on a 4.9 L. I did it myself 6 years ago, but since had sholder and back surgery. Any hints or suggestions would be helpful.

once you get the tranny on a jack and close to the dial pins, get yourself a few pieces of all thread about 8-10" long ( i cant remember the size off hand but maybe 1/2"?) once you get the tranny close then you can insert the all thread so that you will have something to help you guide the tranny into its proper location as you push it in. once the tranny is on the dial pins, then you can start to tighten nuts onto the all thread (be careful to do each side equal distances because you want the tranny to line up straight, and if the bell housing is aluminum you do not want to break it) tighten until you can install the bell housing bolts (or the four tranny bolts...depends on how you took the tranny out...if you have a two piece tranny its a ot easier to unbolt the bell housing from the tranny) then just remove the all thread. just be careful and go slow...hope this helps a little. i have gotten used to putting in a few trans. by myself and its a pain, if you can get someone to help you it will be much easier. two people pushing the tranny is easier than one

The bellhousing bolts are 7/16-14 not 1/2 inch. That is the standard size for ford bellhousing bolts. But the idea from mad scientist would probably work pretty well. Good luck
