ok I was thinking a getting a double roller timing chain.
What would be a good combination, ect...
I saw some with steel cam and crankshaft sprockets, some with Iron, and some with billet steel.
Is there a kind that is better, last longer, stronger, or something to make a difference.
Some had 2, 3, 4 degree adjustments adv./retard on cam and 4,6,8 degrees on crank.
What I'm trying to ask is would a double roller steel cam and crank sprocket with 2 degree cam and 4 degree crank perform as good as a billet steel cam and crank sprocket with 4 degree cam and 8 degree crank, or what?????
Actually the OEM silent chain will last a long time and that chain takes up some of the slack as it wears by design. Unfortunately all of the OEM silent chain timing sets I have seen have retarded cam timing built in. Your alternative is to buy the best roller chain set you can find. Plain steel sprockets are very good. For most cams you will want to set the cam straight up. Check with the cam manufacturer. If you have the time, knowledge, and equipment it is a good idea to check the cam timing.
I have ran cheap and cheaper, now i run a gear drive. How will you drive it? How long do you want it to last? I drive mine like a racecar. But I pull it apart about ever 2 years and freshin up. They will all do the job. You get what you pay for. I need to pull mine apart this sping.
I'll do very litte road drivning, but most mudding.
I was just wondering why one brand double roller with steel sprockets cost $35, and another one cost $60, and if billet steel is better or just any info I can get out of it.
Is the $35. a true roller chain? sometimes they aren't. The billet steel is stonger, but this could wear the chain faster. That is something I couldn't answer. Do you have a good cam to go with this chain, or are you going to change the intake at the sametime?
EDIT: This is MBBFords anwser.(can't sign out of friends name)
When I have all the money together, I will be doing a complete rebuild, boring honing cam carb intake everything.
But yeah the $35 one was a true double roller.
