Can anyone recommend a good vendor for gauge clusters and related items? I need to add a couple gauges, three indicator lights, and two switches to the cab of my 2001 F250. I want it to look like it originally came with the truck and not some after-market hack job.
If I could wish something into existence it would a touchscreen that could be programmed to act as all these devices. I could select whatever parameter I needed to display and then touch the display to push the virtual button.
All wishing aside, where is the best place to start looking for gauge pods and such? Do any of you have any great installations that you would be willing to post pictures of? I'm just getting started on designing the user interface so any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
Check our sponsons for gauge pillars (clusters). Many of us have the three gauge A-Pillar installed. Some have them mounted above the steering colum of at the trash hook.
Here is just ONE of the sponsors, look around.... http://www.dieselmanor.com/gauges/gauge_kits_psd.asp
Look through some of the user's galleries by clicking on their name, then gallery.
You'd want to find users with something like "gauges" or "chip" in their signature.
You can purchase switches with indicator lights built into them and mount wherever you want.
Welcome to FTE, hang in there, plenty more responses to follow...
I too am planning a vegoil conversion and will need to install gauges, switches and lights. I plan to use Greasecar's controller for auto switch to vegoil and a turbo timer for purging so I will need a delete switch for each. I plan to use a 4 gauge overhead pod like:
to enclose pyro, boost, fuel temp and fuel pressure or vacuum gauges. To the left of the ashtray is a good recess for the controller/leds and 2 switches but I will have to fabricate or find s panel to mount them.
A couple years ago I was looking for a digital instrument cluster to update my 1980 Triumph TR7 dash and found one with a large programmable (any style/inputs you want) LCD display. Unfortunately I lost the info.
Is that trash hook an aftermarket add-on? I don't have one.
Nope, it was stock on my '03.
I guess some brain-child design engineer looked at the blank panel there and said "Hey, I know, let's put a fancy trash hook there and charge $1000 more".
Thanks for the suggestions. I've followed up on the links and a few other postings on this forum. After seeing the amazing things that others have done with their trucks I think I'm going to install a small LCD touchscreen to display gauges and buttons. I've got some experience with programmable logic controllers so I think I can automate everything including the VO purge. The PLC idea will also allow me to monitor other parameters such as EGT. Thanks for the help and the welcome to the board.

Came stock on my 2000 too.

That's sounds like it's going to be quite the setup. I'm sure you'll inspire some "guage envy." Be sure to get some pics up when you're done. And welcome to the forum!!

chrisf - The controller I plan to use for diesel to VO switching is purpose built and sold by Greasecar for $275 (I think). What is the size of the display you're considering? Who makes it/how much? Sorry for all the questions but I'm in the same boat and am trying to piece this whole thing together. How are you going to purge? I plan to install a regulated fuel return with check valves and run a high pressure VO pump. With the VO pump on the diesel pump will just recirculate allowing VO operation. That way I can purge by wiring the diesel pump to the turbo timer so when ignition is shut off so is the VO pump but not the diesel. Is this your philosophy or are you planning something different?
chrisf, what kind of gauges are you going to be using? Do they make special fuel temp gauges or can you use oil temp gauges? The reason I'm asking is that if I ever do a WVO conversion, could I use a DiPricol oil temp gauge to match my other ones?

I'm not chrisf, but ..... I don't see why not, as long as you can plumb the sensor to the fuel system somewhere. It is often done just prior to the IP to insure you get a good pre IP reading - you want to know what your IP is getting. The usual VO temp goal is somewhere around 160F, so it is in the oil temp gauge's range.
