I just changed the Oil on the truck for the first time. There is a ton of good advice using search. ;-). I went to Wally-World and picked up (8) 1 gallon jugs of Mobil Delvac 15w40 for $7/Gallon (enough for two changes). I also picked up a 15qt drain bin and a Motorcraft filter. Good deals there, good advice FTE.
I went down to the dealer too so I could get a handfull of the brass crush-washers for the drain plug. I priced out the air-filter ($40!), screw that. Dealer=Stealer. I wil get on online.
The change itself was really easy, used a 3/4 wrench to pull off the plug, and punched a hole in the filter at the same time for max-drainage. Then I just poked another hole in the filter so I could get leverage to screw it off.
Once it was all drained, I put in the new plug, filter and filled it up using a funnel. One good idea is to screw off the lids of the oil containers such that you can re-use the lid for the old oil. Once done, I started it up and let it idle for awhile and checked for leaks. It all looked good so I drove the old oil down to Kragen who recycled it. I also marked a line in my spreadsheet for my self-maintenance so I have detailed records in case I sell 'er.
Yeah, I know, lots of detail about about the most simple of maintenance tasks, but it was my first, and it was fun (and WAY cheaper). I think the whole thing costs about $35 total (vs $120 for dealer).
Cool. The only thing I would suggest is to break the torque on the old filter prior to punching a hole in it. That way in a worst case scenario you wouldn't be stuck with a half torn off filter and no way to get anywhere.
Also, the drain plug is a 19mm. I know, the 3/4" fits it, but there is a difference to me.
alot of guys here ditch the stock airbox system, for a giant open-element filter that attaches to the intake hose that goes on the box. we call it the "kwik filter" around here, and it is a napa part 6637, or a www.fleetfilter.com (sponsor) part number 46637. look at my gallery, i have pictures of the filter in there. it flows alot more then stock, makes a handful of wierd sounds that are really cool, and it only costs $20.
Thx Strokin', I am familar with the kwik mod. I am waiting until I get over 100k before I do anything... ;-). I just had the cam sensor replaced under warranty. Made me *really* happy to see that, I am just at 70K miles now. At 100,001 miles, I will do the kwik.
Don't forget you can pour about a quart of oil into the new filter before you install it. Also, the fumoto valve makes oil changes even easier. You can get one that has a nipple so you can put a short piece of hose on it and drain oil directly into 1 Gallon containers, just keep four extra empty jugs around for that. Just makes it easier. The other neat trick is if you're just using the factory plug put your shop vac over the oil filler tube with the cap removed. Turn on the shop vac and you can pull the plug from the pan with no oil at all coming out... As soon as you turn off the vac, the oil runs out the hole. This method saves you from getting oil on your hands and can also be used to install a fumoto valve without changing the oil.

YEA .... I ALSO REMEMBER SAYING THAT TO MYSELF .
I AM CURRENTLY JUST OVER 70,000 K
STARTED MODS AT 30,000 K
COULD NOT TAKE DRIVING WITHOUT MY TRUCK " TUNED UP " AND I GUESS IT WAS ONLY BECAUSE I WAS USED TO DRIVING MY 2000 MODEL TRUCK BEING " TUNED UP ".
HOPEFULLY NOTHING WILL GO WRONG AND IN NEED OF DEALERSHIP WARRENTY SERVICE.
KINDA STRANGE WISHING YOUR WARRENTY WOULD HURRY UP AND EXPIRE JUST SO YOU CAN MOD YOUR TRUCK.
Hi all...I recently sold my F250 with the V-10 gas and the F350 PSD and love it!! I also on my 250 had installed a Fram Quick drain setup where you screw a valve onto the replaced drain plug to prevent having to take off the plug and make a mess. There is NOT one available for the PSD but I see someone mentioned a "FUMOTO valve". Does anyone know where to find one or more details about this. It sounds like just what I need. Thanks for any help..Dave
