No Bottom End, Help?

I have no bottom end power. I have a 300 with a carter YFA without emmisions etc... no computer controls, free exhaust. I can climb anything in 4-low and she does pretty good accelerating on flat. Maybe the clutch pedal has a foot fetish, I don't know, but every time I take my foot off the clutch starting off the line she sputters and tries to die on me. If I load her up, I can dig in and spin the tires. I'm going to try holding my choke plate open and driving since my choke isn't flawless. I am running an MSD 6 ignition and timing is set at 10 degrees although I have no sticker to verify that's where it should be (84 California emmisions Bronco). Large diameter distributor and new plugs. Any ideas? Maybe play with timing? It does have a lot of valve noise and I'm quite sure there are a few vacuum leaks with all the plugs on her and loose valve cover ventilation. She draws 15" vacuum at idle (12 if I uncap a vacuum line). That's supposed to be normal so I figure any vacuum leak is marginal and unrelated.

thats REALLY low vacuum for a six with a stock carb. it should be pulling 18.5-20" at idle, 23"-25" on decell

You do have a vac leak and these engines are very sensative to vac leaks. fix the leaks and retorque the manifolds.

I moved the vac line from the DIST port on the carb base(then plugged it) to the intake log manifold...works much better. everything else is the same as what you have posted...except I have a tfi coil pigtailed to the original wiring instead of MSD 6 (79 Bronco)
