At first the 4x4 option was not working. The transfer case sounded like it was working but the hubs never locked. So I took the hubs apart cleaned them and greased all the parts and reassembled everything. fficeffice" /><O></O> Now I can get the truck into 4WD but I hear a clanking noise from the left side. I also hear a high pitch grinding noise when I disengage the 4WD. This noise goes away once something pops in the front deferential. <O></O>
Well, auto hubs should only be greased lightly with a thin coat. But in any case, the usual way to fix them is by replacing them with manual hubs. Although you can visit the stealership for a repair kit.
Gateway1, these guys are just heavy off-roaders. They think Manual hubs is the only way to go. (so do I ) lol) but I am sure if you put the words "Auto hubs" in the search window, you will find all the reading you need for the Auto hubs.
the problem with autos is they will fail again. plain and simple. For me i dont like spendy money on the same part every few years or sooner. if your just driving around town you can leave manual hubs locked and wont hurt anything. just dont use 4wd on dry pavement and everything will be fine.
I have been a heavy off roader, and I have been a casual around towner.. I fully agree that the Automatic hubs are VERY convenient.. However they are weak.. If you have to work the hubs at all mud, heavy snow, loose rock, etc you will tear up the autos.. I would STRONGLY suggest replacing with Warn Manuals.. trust me in the log run you will be MUCH happier...
there is nothing convenient about getting stuck because your auto hubs didnt engage. well worth the effort of getting out to engage your hubs and knowing they are engaged. the middle of a mud hole isnt the place to figure out that your hubs arent engaged
i can speak about auto hubs and manual hubs. My first bronco was a 90 XLT that had manual hubs. The truck ran like a bear for all the time i had it. Put over 250,000 miles on her and NEVER had to do anything with the manuals. So like a fool i bought my next Bronco, a 92 Eddie bauer with auto hubs. After TWO ruff winters the auto hubs went. I should have known better. Got it fixed 2 years ago and wouldnt you know they failed again. soon as i am able i am making the swicth back to manuals. Ford sure knows how to take money out your pocket with repairs.
I just picked up a sweet 93 eddie bauer bronco last night and this is my first ford that I have had with the push button transfercase and auto hubs can I just swap in warn locking hubs with this t-case

You could have used the search function to find this out, but......yes you can just ***** can the auto hubs for a set of manual locking ones.
Yes you can. Just remove the auto locking hubs and install the Warn hubs. The 4x4 botton on your dash just replaces the shifter on that would normally be on the floor.
