Right now I'm working out the details on building a 351 based 393. The mechanical stuff was easy enough to figure out, but now I'm on to induction. The motor I'm trying to get ahold of has the complete EEC IV EFI with harness, only issue is that it's speed density. I know speed density is nowhere near as adaptable as MAF, but I want to try to work with what's there if at all possible.
I figure I'll need bigger injectors, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a reflashed computer.
I'm going for around 350 RWHP and 400 TQ in a daily driver, so part throttle driveability is definitely needed.
At these levels is speed density workable, or is it just not worth the hassle? Another reason I want to work with what I have is that i know coming up with a MAF harness for a 351 with a non-controlled tranny takes a harness and components from a 1995 F-series truck with a manual tranny which I imagine would be kinda scarce at the scrapper.
::UNLESS:: (And on this I have no idea), can a 302 MAF harness be used to run a 351 so long as the 351 computer is used? If i can go MAF on the cheap I'm home free, and the 302 harness would be the ticket.
Yeah, but that's $700 worth of parts that just gets me started. I can do twEECer for $500 or megasquirt standalone EFI for $200. They all get me to -basically- the same place except the twEECer and megasquirt being fully adjustable if i decide to go crazy with the motor. I'm thinking megasquirt and spend a couple days sorting the wiring out.
