I tried down in the electrical section, no answers.
I have a 05 250 xl 5.4 auto. I like the way the truck is except for no cruise.
I would like to add the Ford system, I have seen kits on ebay but they all list the diesel only. Ford does have kit #5c3z9a818aaa for $350. Nobody can tell what all I have to do, New wheel and clock spring included. Ebay has not had this kit yet.
Does the computer need reflashed or just turn cruise on? Any unfore seen problems? Dis-connect battery for short time does take care of air bag deployment??
Would like to find someone who has done the 5.4 add on. Thanks
Never heard of it being done B4. The ford kit should have directions and watchout for what options you must have to have all the wires in the right place in the truck B4 you start. You may have to have an XLT. Don't know for sure just a heads up.
I would recommend just ordering it through your dealer and have them install it. With my 2005 5.4 XL SD 4x4, I had them do it because 1) it comes with a new stering wheel that has the controls on the side. You have to remove the airbag and use a wheel puller to remove it. 2) on 2005 the gas pedal is a "fly by wire" electronic sensor type and not throttle cable actuated. 3) This is the most important, you will have to take it to the dealer anyway as the PCM/ECM will have to be reflashed when done. I am a cheap b*a*s*t*a*r*d and wanted to "do it myself" but after looking at what needed to be done, I let the dealer mess with it. Also it will come with a warranty backup if the dealer installs it in. Cost of kit as ordered through the dealer and around 1.5 to 2.0 man hours labor came to $525 installed.
Also I need to add, with the throttle being electronic, there is not "generic aftermarket" kits for these trucks. Alot of dealers sublet this type of stuff to outside vendors when it does not come factory delivered. Learned this the hard way when I wasted a day when my delaer had never done a 2005 conversion and had sent one of these offsite shop tech to the dealer with a 2004 kit that would not work. I would also recommend if you have the dealer install the Ford kit to have one of their "electrical" guys do it and not joe grease monkey from the oil change pit.
Irony is that if ordered from the factory, you would have also gotten tilt steering wheel for maybe $350 added. Stuff is always more expensive adding after the fact.
Thanks Hootbro, I knew the computer needed hooked up. Was not sure if reflashed or cruise turned on, heard both stories. I just have not had any dealer do this in my area, and they have no idea.
Could you give me the name of your dealer and I'll get mine to call. Thanks again

Gene Messer Ford in Amarillo, TX. My dealer had not done it before but the Ford factory kit for the truck had detailed instructions. In all reality, and real dealer tech could do it. When they replace the wheel with the new one from the kit, make sure they correctly index it. Mine was two splines off from center and i made them recenter it.
