A problem just popped up, at idle my tach will drop to zero rpm and then
tranny flashs error. When i idle up tach works and error goes away, also
when i take it out of over drive tach works fine and no error code. This
problem is not occur 100% of the time but is increasing in frequency.
I have a 1991 F-250 7.3L. My tach stopped working and sent the transmission into limp mode. This caused extremly hard shifts. The sensor is easily replaced and and may help end the transmission error codes.
the tac sensor is located by the oil filler, I think it is 1.1/4 nut. You can take it out and clean the pick up, but will probably have to replace. If the trans is acting up (going into limp mode) do not run to long, as the pump increases pressure to compensate. This can lead to a new T/C.
