I will be serviceing my truck after 1st freebie oil change from dealer. I am
considering installing a fumoto valve to speed things up. Have any of you that
have this valve installed ever have it come open when driving whether offroad
or pavement? Does it lock in some way to prevent opening easily? TIA
I just installed my Fumoto last Saturday. It is excellent! I don't see how it could open up...it is not that easy to has to open, and sorta locks and unlocks when moving it. It does not stick down that far. Once you put this on, the oil change process on this truck will be the easiest you have ever done. The oil filter is so easy to change.
PS...most guys only put 13.5 to 14 qts. into the truck. I put in 14. When the dealer put in 15 it was over filled. You do not want to over fill these babies.
A lot of guys on this board have the Fumoto - not one report of the valve ever coming open.
I have one and have not had any problems. I do some light off roading but nothing aggressive enough to have a rock bash the bottom of the pan where the valve is located. It's fairly protected up there anyway - other stuff will hit first.
I've driven through a lot of brush as well and it's never been bothered. When you get the valve and look at it you'll see that it takes a lift and twist to actuate it and that's pretty unlikely to happen.
I did drill a hole in the tab to safety wire the valve if I decided to, but never bothered with it, and as former motorcycle racer I safety wire everything
I love mine as well. I did opt for the safety clamp that was available for $1. It is nothing more than a spring type hose clamp that fits over the valve to make sure no one could easily open the valve. You have to use a pair a pliers to collapse the tabs of the clamp and remove it to drain.
I will agree with every one else here. It's the easiest way to do an oil change. I installed it after my last oil change. Got to use it for the first time yesterday and couldn't have made the service any easier.
I take my truck off-road a fair amount and have had no problems. And since I've had it I haven't had any problems with the dealership stripping the plug and trying to say it was already like that . . . I tell them you're the only ones that have changed the oil . . . wasn't us they say . . . not having to deal with that again, was well worth the money.
I have one and offroad 27.3% of my total miles. Big, hard sharp rocks. No problems. The only thing that worries me is the loss of the oem magnet on the factory drain plug.
Had mine on for about six months now and zero problems, even with some light off the road excursions. I also installed the locking spring clamp, as well as a vaccum cap over the nipple to prevent any unwanted foreign bodies from getting up there.
I have one installed also but have yet to use it (installed it last oil change). What is everyone using to hook up to the drain tube located on the Fumoto valve (an old hose)? Thanks in advance
I just got a section of 3/8in (outside diameter) hose from the home inprovement store. Couple of bucks IIRC. I got clear so I could see the oil flow, but it really doesn't matter. Fits over the nipple perfectly. You could use any hose you have laying around as long as it fits.
Have a good one,
