I have bought a 2004 F350 Lariat CC FX-4 with 21000 miles. I am looking to improve the driveabilty and fuel mileage of my new truck. I am looking for the pros and cons of running the BullyDog Triple Dog, SuperChip Max Microtuner, or the Diablo Predator. EGT are also a concern. I use my truck primarily as a daily driver and for pulling an occassional trailer. Hot Rodder I am not.
I have the SCMT Tuner (On a 7.3 mind you), and on the 80hp tune, I get kinda-sorta 2mpg when I'm not tromping on it. Driveability is great 'cept when it's slippery/snowy out, then you REALLY want to feather the throttle. You will find with tuners that the cruise-control gets a little hairy at <60mph.

Ruger01
go with the scmt. simple to use and has a great power band.
stay away from the predator it will make your head gaskets
Any of them make a major change in the trucks performance, if you add any HP and or tow any siginificant weight you shoudl look to get a set of gauges to protect the engien and turbo from excessive EGT's. The two best products for that are the Bully Dog Triple Dog with the Outlook monitor or the Edge Platinum with the Attitude monitor. Both have power leve changes on the fly, a full set of gauges and transmission shifting controls to make the tranny live a long life. The Edge also has a turbo timer as a neat feature.
If you plan to add a set of mechanical gauges like Auto Meter, Isspro or Dipricol then the Triple Dog or Superchips or Predator programmers work very well also, but you do need the gauges either way! Predator has redone their programming for the 6.0 and the Duramax and it is waaay sweet as compared to the past ones, in fact you have less boost PSI with the same HP output which is becomming a trend in diesel tuning over the last year or so. Wanted to let you know that their tunig has changed etc. Call us at the office if you have any questions etc and we will be glad to help you.

Mark @ DPPI
I have the Edge Attitude Platinum and love it. I monitor the egt's plus the unit will de-fuel should it sense any porblems with the motor, tranny or egt's.
As a side note - the turbo timer mode will throw some trouble codes i.e. low power, lost communications with cluster. The Edge will read the codes and explain what they are. Then it will also clear them. Max egt's can be set as well as the turbo timer to operate off temp or time.
Ruger01, Which tuner is the million dollar question here. I would suggest doing a search on the subject, but keep in mind that some of the guys on here sell the products, or they do the custom tuning. You may want to listen to the users, not the programmers and sellers.

Who here is tuning or selling? There are NO current SCT vendors on this site, with the exception of Motorhaven.
I would guess I ordered the first (or close to the first) predator from this site...
dynoed @ 375HP & 720lbft with NO other upgrades....
worked well for 30K miles until I sold my 03, but many have stated that it causes head gasket problems for too much timing... I never experienced that, but it should be a consideration....
I now have the SCT XCal2 for my 05 Ex and with the proper programmer/tuner behind it has proven to be a full second faster in the 1/8th mile than the 03 and predator combo....
(and the 05's start out at lower hp than the 03's did....!)
