I can tell you one thing. NONE of the different puttys/sealers work. I've tried them all and still had a leak. They might last a few days, maybe even a few weeks, but the leak will come back. I just decided to save up for a new tank.

My tank wore through at the steel straps. It was my only driver so I had to act quickly. I went to NAPA where it just so happened they had a tank for my truck. It was $114 out the door. The toughest part is the bolts for the straps. If they are rusty, you might just break them off and get new ones. It is not a difficult job. Use a floor jack under the tank to support it. You can lower it a couple of inches to unplug the sensor wires and fill/vapor tubes. Do it right and get new hoses. I did not replace my sending unit, as long as it is working, save your money. Make sure you use some gasket seal at the top of the new tank where the sending unit fits, the gasket is not a perfect seal. Good luck!
