Backfire

I am getting a little backfire when I give the truck a lot of gas when its cold outside and the engine is cold. Why is the timing find when the truck is warm and not when it is cold?

instead of timing, it sounds like one of the valves is not seating properly. once the engine warms up the valves expand and it seats better. how many miles are on the engine, might be time for a valve job

[font color=red size=2]It could also be the choke, it may need adjusting. I have a manual choke, and if it's not set correctly I get a backfire or a hesitation. Might want to look at the choke...

Backfire

I had the same problem with mine, it was a bad exhaust valve. To temporarily hide the problem I eliminated the vacuum advance. I have a 400 and have been told this is typical, especially since a manifold leak caused it.

Backfire

Is backfire out carb or exh. Carb backfire indicates a lean condition, which doesn't surprise me with a cold engine due to poor atomization. exh backfire is usually too rich, or timing, or bad valve. Good luck.
