trying to get better power to my stock 302. Considering removing the smog pump and all the accrutrements. What are the drawbacks and are there kits available? Is it going to affect the electronic ignition in any negative manner? Vehicle is an 81 F150, 302 2bbl, AOD transmission, 2WD. Any thoghts?

I removed everything from my truck. Just make sure not to leave any vacuum lines uncapped. No kits that I know of. Removing the smog control is not exactly manufacturer recommended. First thing you can do is cut the belt going to the smog pump. That'll do a world of good. Drawbacks........ well, mine has become really sensitive to cold weather. Runs like a champ when it's warm, but getting there is a whole 'nother story.... Check my gallery and look at the 86 F-150. There was a time when you couldn't see the engine for the emissions stuff and vacuum lines....

Another couple of drawbacks to removing the smog stuff are re-sale value and if you live in a state that has smog testing, you won't pass the visual smog check at all, no matter how well the truck runs.
Where I live, we don't have smog testing and we can register our vehicles on a Permanent Registration status. That means that you pay double the normal fee once and only once and your rig is permanently registered, complete with a shiny "PERM" sticker.
I yanked all the smog stuff off of my F-250 when I rebuilt the engine and I'm going to permanently register the truck this spring in case Montana does start to do smog checks, they can't get me. But I'm aware that if I do sell the truck in the future and the next owner does have to smog it, I might not get the money I ask for it because of the hassle the buyer has to deal with of finding working, complete smog equipment, hooking it all up and getting it to pass smog.

Even though I'm happy with how the truck runs without the smog stuff, I'm aware it's a double edged sword that can come back and cut me to pieces.
