In the search for a soultion to my code 332 I had the EGR valve off yesterday to give it a clean. I noticed that the 1" pipe that runs back to under the plenum has some sideways movement on it when disconnected from the EGR. Is this correct?
I have yet to find a decent exploded diagram of the EGR system and have not had the plenum off to look. Is this pipe meant to be flexiable or have I got a crack in it/ Main reason I ask is it does sound a bit gasy when driving and wonder if I and getting a leak somewhere. Can't smell or see anything back there but ya never know.
Anyone got any good pics of a 92 without the plenum in place?
The only time I've had to work on those EGR tubes was on an old Crown Vic I had. The new pipes did not move, the old ones I replaced were cracked....but that car would gas you out at a stop light, and it very obviously sounded like an exhaust leak.
Yes, the EGR tube has a corrigated flexible part that will move. I just replaced the one on my Bronco. The new part as well as the old part did Flex. The reason they do this is because you cannot install the EGR tube with the EGR valve in place. You HAVE to remove the plenum and EGR valve in order to install a new EGR tube. You get the tube close, install the plenum and EGR valve back in place and THEN manuever the tube back onto the valve.
On a side note. My plenum gasket cracked so I removed it to replace it with new one. In doing so I acidentally cracked my EGR tube in the corrigated area without knowing. Installed everything back together, started it up and then had an exhaust leak. Dang. So I had to remove the plenum again and replace the tube.
Thanks guys... I'll stop worrying about the tube now and concentrate on my code 332 and get the EVR fixed. Oh and now its fast idelling all the time so I guess my IAC needs some precussive maintainence!
