Friend just got some Bilsteins Heavy Duty for stock height for his 01 f250....same as mine...and he called me and asked me before he puts them on tomorrow which way they go....lol Boot at top, or boot at bottom. I said boot bottom going by the bushings...only one has a metal insert for rod to go through and that is how i did mine...and pretty sure they could have only went one way...but never really paid attention...so figured i would ask on here...for my brain fart question...lol
You are correct. Boot on the bottom it makes sense to not give water and grime the opportunity to deteriorate the seal and pit and scratch the shaft. Something so simple, but the other companies just don't get it.
I thought boots went on top??? makes sence to put the boot on bottom to keep water and grime off the shaft. Does it affect the way the shock operates with the valving in the shock??
I haven't noticed whether it makes a difference or not. I was wondering the same thing about the boots when I installed them. Then I realized that they were kinda murphy proof and went on one way.
