Ranger 2.3L Questions

Does the 2.3L in the 88 ranger have the injectors in the intake manifold or the Head itself?Buddy has a 88 ranger with no title I think I am gonna buy.I am building a Pony stock dirt car and if the engine can be converted to a 2bbl carb then I can use it.Might buy it just to yank the tranny and bottom end since he only wants a $100 bill and it runs and drives....just wouldn't want to use the bed since it only has 1 bolt holding it on.

They're in the manifold, so you're good. The most popular head for what you want is probably the D-port head, so take a look and see what you have when you yank that EFI manifold off. That tranny wouldn't be your best bet for a pony-stock though. If it's the one I think it probably is, it's actually pretty fragile. Better to get one from a Pinto or Mustang II or even an early Fox-body 'Stang.

If it's the original head, then it will be a closed chamber D port.
