2 problem engine light comes on sometimes. Then stay off for hours.
comes on most of the time on the highway
well any ideas how to go about this?
am use to the old cars stuff lol But love to work on my cars
ps Nice WebSite

1. may be warped front disc brake rotors-do a runout test,
grabbing brake pad on one side,
loose worn wheel bearings
2. pull the ECU engine control unit (engine computer) codes and post here on forum....search Aero forum for directions how or take to Autozone or many other auto parts stores will pull for free and then turn into parts super salesmen

If I just bought a 92 (and I own a 92 Aerostar) I'd give it the once-over check out, and then do the usual PM things, like oil and filter change, trans fluid and filter change, plugs, wires, rotor button and distributor cap, fuel and air filters, etc. Then I'd look at the brakes very closely. Never try to cheap out on brakes. How fast you stop is more critical than how fast you go. Pull all 4 wheels. Check the pads. Check the rotors for heat damage and discoloration, then for thickness and being out of round. You can replace rotors for $30 each at the cheap stores, probably get a really good one for under $50. I just did mine and replaced the calipers and wheel cylinders at the same time. Be sure to get left and right rotors instead of the universal ones. Check (and usually replace) the front wheel bearings and seals at the same time. Don't reuse a seal.
Autozone will read your codes for free, or you can get a code reader from X-mart, JCWhitney, and most auto parts stores. I paid $20 for mine, and have to count the blinks. You can use a bulb or meter and do it without the reader, but it's simpler.
Do a search for brakes on here. One of these experts listed all the part numbers and such for the hardware kits (from NAPA, I think) and gave much better advice than I can.
Good luck, and welcome aboard.
Definitely get those codes pulled ASAP. The light is not there to be pretty but to tell you that there is a major problem pending with the drivetrain. Todays modern computer controlled engines are not like the engines of old. The CE light is one light that is not an Idiot light.
brakes tomorrow.& My autozone said they only read codes on 1996 and up.
I will check NAPA out later
and thanks for help
You can pull your own codes with a piece of wire and count the flashs of the CE light.
Here is a link ( you might have to hit refresh to see it):

The only difference is that the plugs are mounted on the drivers side instead of the passenger side of the engine compartment.
call NAPA the guy said he would read cods for me free
