hi, i'm regearing my 99 f250 4x4 v10 sc ,from 3.73 to ether 4.30 or 4.56. oh, i have 285 bfg's ,and won't be going bigger. i will be towing heavy& plowing snow. anybody have 4.56's and 285's?? it's kind of hilly here .thanks barry
i went to 56's from 10's and will not look back.it hurt me a little in mpgs but i'm also in a bad grade area in n.j. really right on top of the ski area's mountain.it's 25% grade.30's will do it 56's just make my towing a whole lot easier.
yes i love them.esp. on the 1/4 mile.
I have the factory 4.30's in my 99 v10 sc 4x4 with 285's. It is a good setup. I can pull my boat in overdrive most of the time and if it is hilly I just turn overdrive off. With the truck empty, it will pull almost any hill in overdrive and around town it'll shift into 4th around 37 mph. As a bonus, my speedo is less than 3 percent slow with the 285's.
thanks ,for the replys ,i will be towing small excavators around a large fairly hilly city . hey, super 6.8 ,what is your rpm at say 70 mph ?? thanks barry
Don't want to hi-jack your thread, but what do you think you would do with 35's. 4:10 or 4:56? I see you can get front & rear gear kits for $600 in some magazine I have.
RPM at 70 is around 2250. My boat is less than 5000 lbs. With the load you are talking about you probably won't pull it on 4th gear. But with od switched off you can pull anything at speed. RPM in 3rd at 70 is around 3000 which is real close to the peak torque.
