I cleaned off the valley of the engine on my 97 diesel, let it dry out, and a day later saw slightly wet spot right under the fuel pump. I took the fuel filter housing away from the pump, and found the fuel lines going to the pump were old and cracked. MY QUESTION IS COULD THE FUEL PUMP BE LEAKING, AS WELL THE FUEL LINES?? I would hate to replace the fuel lines, install everything, and still have a leak. Is there a way to check the pump if it leaks, when it is off the truck?? Please give any directions you guys might think of. Thanks Jeff By the way the truck ran good before I found the leak.
When I had that problem I put a small piece paper towel under the pump to determine that it was in fact the pump leaking, which it was. The pump has a weep hole underneath that leaks when the seal goes out (like the weep hole on a water pump). When you change the pump you will have to remove the filter assembly so might as well change hoses at that time. Good luck, aloha.
I've already removed the fuel filter housing partially, so I have no way to check, as you say with paper towel. Should I just replace pump, or is there a way to check pump after removing it? Thanks Jeff

I have a kit from autozone used to remove fuel lines, and was wondering if you have experience using the tool to remove fuel pump metal lines from fuel pump? Thanks Jeff
