Seems I need a new Catalytic converter on my 1994 explorer. It's saturday and I won't be able to get this fixed until Monday morning. As this is a 1994 and I will be looking for something new in the summer I don't want to spend a fortune. Any ideas on what the cost will be to replace with either new or used (if possible) in Toronto Ontario and whether this is somthing I may possibly be able to do without the use of a garage.
I think it is beyond selling 266k, body is in ok shape, transmission is a little leaky. My SO is going to get his licence this year so I was going to let him have it to work on. However, we have a new emissions thing here which will make any vechicle over 10 years have to do emissions every year. I just passed this year (should have known the catalytic must have been telling me something).
and I really won't know until tomorrow (in the daylight) if I even need a new catalytic converter or if whatever is going on can just be repaired. SO says it looks like the pipes are just disconnected. Don't know if a weld went or if the Catalytoc converter split. Just in panic mode right now.
$153 from Summit Racing a few years ago for a direct fit, bolt on replacement. Comes with front gasket. If you can change spark plugs, you can change this cat.
Anytime I have changed cats, I have redone the entire exhaust also, so I've always welded. Just my personal preference, but I like the weld ons better than the bolt ons.
I think this is the link to the ones I have on my Ranger:
