Any solutions for an antenna that hits the garage door everytime i go in or out? Shorter antenna or some other trick? I swear he radio reception is getting worse and worse
You could try and go without an actual antenna mast by replacing it with an electronic unit. It's supposed to be as good as a regular mast as far as reception goes. I've never tried it, but i"ve seen ads for such in various catalogs so that you can eliminate the mast, and fill in the hole for a custom look. Otherwise, there are lots of shorter billet masts for sale. Some are 18" or so tall. Don't know what that will do for your reception though.
I got an amplified antenna. It replaced the antenna on the fender (with a nice little plug) and the new antenna it inside the cab, above the rear view mirror. You can't see it unless you are looking, and it really cleaned up the front view of the truck, IMO.
Take the original ant carefully clamp it in the vise, put cardboard on the sides if it is painted, measure the length you need , put an adj wrench over the mast, adj wrench to fit just a little bit loose on the mast , use the wrench as you would a slide hammer and tap the ball from the end , catch the ball ,as it will get lost easy , now cut mast to the length you need , since most ant masts have a taper ,get wider as they get shorter , you must grind the dia back to original dia and tap the ball back on the mast , if its a black mast, semi-goss black paint matches perfect , if you did this right you wont be able to tell ! PS Ive been doing this for years at my shop and it works great, hope this helps, Craig.
Can't be sure but seems like I remember the remote door lock antenna and radio antenna are one in the same. Cutting it would affect your remote FOB reception.
