Front Disk Brake Question
The calipers are held to the (spindle?) mounting portion of the suspension with some bolts. These may be loose. Might be what your friend meant. Or, some parts of the caliper may be loose and the rotational force may be moving these things. Then, when you let off the brakes, it relaxes and CLUNK! goes back into normal position.
Take a look under there, wiggle stuff around. See what you find.
Is it a clunking or a rattling sound.
The only thing that holds my caliper in place is a CALIPER KEY SUPPORT which is held in place by the CALIPER SUPPORT SPRING and KEY RETAINER BOLT.
I think you have the same brakes as I do, except my are power brakes
?Not really a major job, unless you have something else wrong that isn't mentioned here.
When's the last time you did a brake job?
Check the suspension along with the radius arm bushings.
They also clunk at braking times (mine did).
Do you have ball joints or king pins?
You don't have very many miles for an 80 F100.
Like datchew said, wiggle stuff around.
