2004 F350 quick questions...

I am looking at buying a 2004 F350 with a power stroke diesel engine. It's a 2WD truck, supercab, dually, automatic. I believe it has the 40 gallon fuel tank, and I was wondering if any of you 1 ton guys new what kind of fuel ecomony to expect and how the auto would match up to the task. It will be a hot shot truck, and at the most will see about 16,000 lbs towing. I beileve it's rated for up to 30,000 lbs GVWR.

So, what kind of fuel mileage will I see?

Should I worry about it being an automatic?

I will change the oil in it about 2 times a month and other fluids about once every 1 to 2 months. It will be babied! Thanks for the help!

Gross combined vehicle weight will be around 20,000 pounds with a max trailer weight of 13,000 pounds. You need to move to a 2005 model for the increase in capacity as well as the super sweet integrated trailer brake controller.

As far as the 2004 6.0L PSD, go to the dealer and get a OASIS report. This is a wise move on any used truck but especially so on the 2004 6.0 PSD. Ford is dealing with hundreds of millions of dollars in warranty repairs on these trucks.
For your application, running it heavy and often, consider a 2005 model truck, PSD/Torqshift automatic. You get the stonger frame giving it higher capacity, the aforementioned integrated (with the truck's ABS) trailer brake controller, and you're a year further from the 6.0L PSD's problems at intoduction. A 2005 will cost more, but if you're going to be depending on it to "bring home the bacon" it should be money well spent.
