Update

ive been having a intermintin (sp) problem with smoking so a lds told me it sounded like a sensor was telling the engine that it was not up to operating temp. so ive been keeping an eye on the truck and noticed yesterday. when i was stopping for a train and put the truck in park and grabbed a cig, looked at the temp gauge and the needle dropped a 1/4 in 5 sec. so i thought maybe the idiot that owned the truck took the thermostat out because of the temp needle moving so much. so i pulled the thermostat housing out and found there was a thermostat but the wrong one. because when i went to ford for a new one. it was about a inch long than the one that was in there. so i installed it and drove all night and held a temp perfect and idle perfect but still smoking not as bad, so the lds said to change the oil temp and the water temp sensor. becuse it don't smoke when i drive or for about 5 sec after stopping at a light. what do you guys think?

Sounds like it's worth a try. Some of the fuel delivery tables are based on oil and coolant temp.

It's not just at idle...the timing tables going down the road are also affected by EOT. The timing is more advanced when the oil is cold, or the PCM thinks it's cold.

Me too. You've already check or fixed everything I can think of that would cause the problem.

Honestly...I think everyone with a 7.3 PSD should carry a spare cam sensor, so if you don't have a spare, now would be as good a time as any to get one.

yes, just finished putting in the right pcm and from what ford said updated and the truck runs like a champ just the smoking is whats killing me i talked to a ford tech and he said sounds like a sensor but i don't have much faith in the tech, because he kept pushing to make a apointment to drop it off, and i told him maybe next month(never). still fighting the smoking battle.
