I think I am going to be forced to sell my IDI. I need to know what it is worth or what you guys feel is a reasonable asking price. I don't plan on being gone for ever but money issues will not allow me to keep the IDI as a second vehichle right now. It is a 1990 F-250 extended cab extended bed 4X4 , 7.3IDI E4OD. It has a lift and larger mickey thompson tires. It has 118K on the truck. I don't know if SCA was used before I bought it but I put it in when i bought the truck. I just replaced both fuel tanks, master cylinder and a battery. The previous owner replaced the ball joints and brakes, glow plugs and had the tranny rebuilt about 10K miles ago. The truck has new paint but does have a large dent on the passenger side cab. The things I know to be wrong with the truck are The OD light still flashes occasionally and the headlight switch is a little quirky. Thanks for your help
You can tell by looking through ebay that as a rule they don't bring what they are worth especially when you "have to sell" if its possible for the couple thousand you mite get, just park it till things improve.
I bought my 89 for 3500 in june. Same exact setup as yours, except mine is black. i got it from a friend of mine, so I got a good deal. I have since put in maybe 1500 in brand new parts, from tie rod ends, batteries, brakes, calipers, warn lockers, water pump, thermostat, etc. If you have receipts that will help. I would agree though that it might not be worth the money, especially if you will be needing a truck in your future life. My truck has 4.10 gears in it, with a 5 speed manual, and even with the 4.10s I am getting cloe to 18 miles to the gallon on the highway, with stock exhaust. The new powerstrokes are just starting to reach those numbers again, but they are 35-40000 brand new. This truck is a great buy because it gets good mpg for a big truck, you can't touch the efficiency with a gas powered engine. If you need the money that bad, and can't see yourself needing a truck, then I would think maybe 4500-5500, at least that is what I could get in connecticut. receipts for improvements might help raise the resale value, but I would try to hold onto it if you can.
I would go to Kelly Blue Book on the web. The website is www.kbb.com. I use it quite a bit to see what a car or truck is worth. You can select trade in value, private party value, which is what you would want to use and you can select what a dealer would ask for it.
A lot depends on the area you live in. And it's a buyer's market for full size vehicles these days with the high costs of fuel. I see some pretty nice trucks sell for not a lot of money locally and on ebay. I bought my '92 F-350 Crew Cab Dually last year for only $3,500 and the dealer had just lowered his price a grand because he couldn't move it. Of course diesel was well past $3.00 a gallon then so selling might be a little better now.
in august i bought an 83 6.9, with about 110,000 miles. The truck looked great, no rust, a little bondo in the rear but i didnt have problem with that. Interior was hmm can i say perfect. It was well taken care of, great truck, i got it for 2000. Ive been offered 3 for it but its my first truck and i wont give it up for that. So if yours is 4x4 lifted and 118,000 plus 7 years older then mine i wouldnt go under 2000, i know id buy it for more than that if i had the money and didnt have my truck. a friend of mine had a truck like yours but 2wd and he ran it for 500,000 miles till it died so id say damn good truck but yah look it up on ebay, also depends on whos buying it, and how much theyre willing to pay.
