Wanting to flush out a '94 ranger with possible aluminum heads. What are some of the best flushes you guys have come across that are agressive enough to get most of the buildup out but mild enough not to hurt your rad or head? thanks
i fill a 30 gallon drum with a mix of 3 boxes of baking soda and tap water, then plumb it to the water pump intake and hook the radiator lower to the drum after draining the system. start the motor and let run for 10-15 minutes. drain, then fill the system with 50-50 mix. i usually do this every other year.
i started doing this around 30 years ago after the evinrude outboard dealer told me to do it to keep the aluminum block clean. i figured if it is good for a boat motor, it is good for a car motor also. the baking soda cleans the aluminum by some kind of chemical reaction. when i make a mix, i will keep it for all the flushing, then dump it in the antifreeze recycling tank.
