I just happen to own a 1977 Trailer Special! Everything stock/factory equipment. It means it has an oversized radiator and tranny cooler, 460 engine(240HP), Dual exhaust, 3.88 gear ratio, Automatic c-6 transmission. I'm not sure about the suspension, probably a bit stiffer, but not that of a Camper special.
Mine happens to be a F150 Ranger XLT. I'm not sure what that means, other than two-tone paint and intermittant wipers.
On an unrelated note... I found that replacing the timing gear set, with an adjustable, set to zero, really improves low end torque. The factory setting is retarded by 8 degrees.
Actually, I am looking to buy a 77 F-150 Ranger as well. It is currently a 300, 4 speed. But, I was thinking of upgrading to a 460 c6 anyway. I thought that I would add all of the other stuff, and make it a trailer special, since they seem so rare.
Do you know if the trailer special came in a short box?
Another thing, this truck has a black interior, and I want to change it to blue. Is this a matter of changeing the dashpad, or is the whole dash itself molded in one color?
LAST EDITED ON 19-Oct-01 AT 02:20 PM (EST)[p]You can get the dash pad painted or replace it. You shouldn't replace the dash, but get it painted too. Mind that the dash paint is a soft dull looking paint, rather than a full metallic like the exterior.
Well thats good to know. Unfortunatly, they sold the truck on me last night for $1400 Cdn!!!! I guess I will just keep looking, but late 70's fords are hard to come by up here in New Brunswick, and shortys are even rarer. I have only ever seen one that I can recall, and it was a 75. Maybe now I have an excuse to get a trailer, and drive down to arizona to get one????
I told my fiancee that now I will have to put duals on my 95 shorty to keep myself happy!
