THAT might win as funny quote of the year. Some people do have good luck with the autos and more power to you if you do. I just wish they at least had a backup system on them. Don't some of the newer trucks have auto hubs that can be manually engaged in case of failure?

Let's not get on F250's case because he has a set of auto hubs that work and he likes them. If he's happy with them who are any of you to question it? Remember too that not everyone uses their trucks to the same extent or on the same terrain. I'd never run autos but that doesn't mean they don't do fine for him.

who does wait until there barried? but considering you cant lock your autos, and leave the case in 2wd, when you need to drop it into 4wd, the t case may kick in, but then the hubs might not, just a thought.

My F-100 came from the factory with the full time flanges. I've got them in a box under my seat should one of the Warns fail.

At work we've got an '88 3/4 ton Suburban 4wd. It's just a road warrior, probably only been in 4wd twice its entire life. Anyway, it's got auto hubs with no manual lock option. The other day, a staff member just happened to get the behemoth stuck in a mud/grass driveway. He pulled it down in to 4-hi and hit the throttle. I'll be damned if the hubs didn't lock right up and pull all 8000 pounds of kids and truck right back on to the gravel.

So you can't say they're totally unreliable. I wouldn't just put them on a truck that needed hubs, but if you have them, are satisfied with them, and they're working, why swap them out?

I still have my auto hubs -- in a box, and I was wandering how they failed after I took them off. In both sides they lost a few "teeth", and while I can't say for sure what happened (car came with dead hubs) I think one way to break them, or shorten there life is to floor the accelerator before the hubs are fully engaged.

The parts also seemed kinda wimpy for a 5000+ lbs SUV. Not that my Warn premiums look that much stronger, but they are locked/unlocked while the vehicle is stationary.

thanx ivan, lol. it is hard to pick out the sarcasm on the internet and i keep forgetting that!

if you wanna know the truth... the last time dad or I bought a ruck with manual hubs was when we bought the 96 bronco. as dad was doing all the paperwork and all (i was out of state) i went down the road to napa and bought a set of warn premiums and i changed the hubs out right there in the car lot. it didn't take me but about 15 minutes so it wasn't bad. the salesguy thought i was crazy but he paid for the hubs! i was impressed!

Wow, that's quite the response for manual...Kinda what I expected though. I just got my WARN premium hubs in the mail today, gotta go put 'em on. I used the excuse that my factory hubs plastic **** was rotting away...Other then that the factorys worked fine. I like the look of the Warn better though.

Thanks everyone for your votes, its fun to see!

PS- Flange Locks, eh? Maybe on the next poll.

Heh...according to a few posts I've read...my truck doesnt have either kind of hub.

Anyways...you guys with the manual hubs cant go from 2 to 4wd at 55mph! (although...why would you need to? )

My vote is for Manual hubs. They are much stronger and a lot more reliable Plus...my mom wont think the shifter on the floor is for the tranny.

Yeah we can. If you know the road is slippery, then lock the hubs, and away you go. It's nice to be able to drop her into 4 hi whenever passing, or cornering on the hwy up here. Don't get me wrong, I know a 7000lb vehicle isn't going to stop any faster if it's in 4.
I've had much better experience with manual hubs, especially when you really need them. Never had to replace the WARNs on the '96.
