yes you reuse the stock clamp. you can use a wrench, but you wont have much swinging room and i could probably have the exhaust hung by the time you get the nut loose enough to the point where you can get it off.
thanks that what i was thinking i guess i should gather up a 11mm deep well by tomorrow then ya there doesnt seem to bee too much room around the turbo
welll i finally got my exhaust installed. it only took me and a buddy about 3 hours. the only thing we had trouble with was getting the stock exhaust out of the rubber hangers but that wasnt too bad. it was actually an easy install.

What does it sound like inside the cab with the windows up?
louder than stock, deeper, both?
I didn't notice much increase in sound in the cab other than the WW is more noticible. Now if I roll the passenger's window down while driving by a brick wall or solid wooden fence, there is a BIG difference. Much deeper tone than the stock or even the stock with a BTM. I have also noticed many more heads turn as I drive down the road.
you cant hear it with the windows up because the engine is so loud. it is more of a whistle with the windows down i like it. it is a bit louder on the freeway but nothing annoying just a deep rumble. guzzle is right you can hear your turbo much more
just pull on the rubber hanger and push on the exhaust. they are stubborn so dont be shy about it. the stock exhaust has barbs on the end of the metal rod that goes through the rubber hole so they do not come out easily. also just cut the whole exhaust out with a sawzall. i tried to pull it apart and it was just a waste of time. if you cut the pipe right after the muffler and cut it before your tranny crossmember it just comes right out. you do not have to remove the shock bolt like the instructions say to
I will be installing a mbrp SS 409 kit on mine tomorrow what is the best way to get the stock exhaust out of those rubber hangers.
on the stock system, there is a little bulge on the end of the metal piece that the rubber hanger has to be pushed over. it is nearly impossible to get the hanger back off of the metal piece, as it is tapered for pushing on but it is barbed so it won't come off. i just took the hacksaw and cut the bulge off on the end so the hanger can just slip right off.
Yeah if you have a sawzall just buy some of the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:City><st1lace>Milwaukee</st1lace></st1:City> blades "The Torch" and cut the notches off the hangers. We had a heck of a time getting the clamp off the turbo then we went back to the BFH approach. Big Hammer and just beat the exhaust around a couple of times (under the truck) and it popped right loose. I think we cut the stock exhaust in 3 places and it was out. I think we did it (2 of us) in an hour and that was 15 minutes of head scratching with the turbo clamp. We had the exhaust all laid out and in the correct order and all of the sockets right there. It was a breeze.
Where was the microphone located?
Window(s) up or down?
These cheap PC mics are not know for their great acoustical qualities and most of them try to cancel out background noise which is what I was trying to record! I tried to mount it at various places under the rear of the truck but at higher speeds, I was picking up a lot of wind noise. I tried different wind screens and even made some baffels. After recording the runs I have posted here, I tried mounting it on the pipe itself, near the tip. Big Mistake! I looked down at the laptop and wasn't getting anything on the recording. Pulled over and walked around the truck. Had nothing but a molten glob of goo hanging down from a couple of melted wires....
Exhaust temps too high for the plastic..... End of Recording... click
