Help request

Hi guys.
I am new to the forum and would appreciate any help offered.
I have an 1998 Explorer,4 litre.
To day I took it to the local garage to get a quote for some work.
Yesterday a noise appeared out of no where.A loud sqeeking noise and got worse as the day went on.
I thought I just needed a stabalizer bushing on the front drivers side wheel.
I was told by the mechanic I needed new tie rod bushings.Top and bottom.
The price I was quoted to replace all 4,two either side was approx $1700.00.
So,to the big question.
Does this quote sound right to you guys.
Any other tips, advice would be appreciated.
Regards Neil.

Sounds way too high to me.

Can you provide more info about the squeak? ie from engine, from left front wheel, intermittent/constant, etc...

Post your problem over in the Exploder forum and those guys will provide better help. This forum is more for regional discussions, stuff like closest Tim Horton's and so on.

Good luck in getting it fixed, and welcome to FTE, the best site on the net!

Unhappy Help request

To chris 12 and loudfords
I dont want to tell and run chris. It is a local small garage. The guy seems honest enough and has been reccomended before to me.
Any way I had to do some thing as I need my truck for work this weekend.
I had the two bottom ball joints replaced and that got rid of the squeak.500 bucks and change.82 bucks each for the joints +300 labour.****.What can you do though when you own mechanic is in Cuba on vacation.
The top joints are 200 and change each.Guess I'ii have to get some o/t in at work before I do those.
loudfords.Where do I get to the Explorer forum on the site.
Neil.

When i think about it again. that isn't really that bad of a price. and when your mechanic is gone what can you really do.
