Hi everyone, this is my first post so I am sorry if I mess up. I just bought a 97 F-350 Reg cab, single rear whee, 4x4. I was test driving it and the truck died. I was driving normal and the motor just dies. I put the truck in neutral and turned the key off and back on and it started. I was thinking the cam shaft sensor. The dealership where I bought put a cam shaft sensor on it. The truck runs great until it dies. After I got it home I had about 250 miles on it and the truck died again. Then I reset the computer by taking off the battery cables. I put another 200 miles on it and guess up, it died. I called the dealership and they said bring it in. Well so far it died last night twice within about 50 miles apart. Has anyone ever had this happen before. I have never seen a cam shaft sensor go out so quick. Sorry if this does not make any sense. thank for any help in advance. It is a automatic also and I don't think there is a chip on the truck. It has 122000 miles on it. A old man had it before.
Still sounds like a cam position sensor to me. Do you get any movement on the tach when cranking during a no start? If so, the cps should be ok. Be sure that the dealer put it in and that it's NEW. If not, let us know and we'll try some other things.
put some identifying mark on the cps that only you know is there like a scratch or something...after they say its fixed look and see if they even replaced it.

I am taking it to the dealership tommorow so I will put a mark on it. I had a friend put his computer on it and there were some codes that we pulled up. I will post them later tonight. I am at the fire station right now. Some of the codes were taking about the transmission. There was some talk about some people on here had to shim the CPS sensor. Thanks
Well the dealership that I bought the truck from called me today after having my truck since Saturday. The truck is finally died on them with the computer hooked to it yesterday. The computer showed a bad PCM. The dealership replaced it at there cost, since I just bought the truck from them. They said the old PCM had a chip on it. I am picking it up tommorrow and I am going to ask to look to see what kind of chip. I am just happy that the dealer flipped the bill for this. Has anyone ever seen a chip make a PCM go bad. Thanks
the more common electronic failure from a chip is IDM failures since its increasing pulse width and making the idm work harder.
it almost seems like theres injector harness shorting out making the truck stall. it could be a small short and the idm is shutting down to protect itself and when you restart it is back in normal mode. it is possible that a very small spot on the harness is exposed and it heats up and shorts out or moves a little and shorts out.
