76-77 axle codes

i have looked every where searched the site, internet, chilton done confused the crap outta me. i am goin to a junk yard to look for a new front and rear end for my truck it is a 76 F-150 D44 in the front 9" rear. i know to look for a 76-77 due to bigger bearings in the rear end and the breaks too. i need to know what axle code on the door sticker is for open carrier 4.09/4.10/4.11 (what ever they used). also if there is a LOCKING not limited slip but factory locking diff i would like to know the codes for that (same ratios).

thanks
Mike

OK, Looking at my 1976 Ford Shop Manual.

Front Axle

3,000 GVW Dana - 44 - Locking Code = 8 (With Power Steering = Q)

Rear Axle

9" Ford 4.11 Codes * = Limited-Slip 0r Traction-Lok

A3 = 2900*, A5 = 330*, H3 = 3600* & 3750*, 03 = 2900, 05 = 3300, 07 = 2750, 11 = 3600

No 4.10 Ford 9" rear Axles only Dana 60 & 70. Did not see a 4.09 at all.

I know in 1977 the F250 front they had a 4.09 Front with the 4.10 rear as I have one.

So I would guess if you find one with a 9" 4.10 rear it would have a Dana 44 4.09 front.

HOWEVER the above information from the Ford Shop Manual does not agree with the Hollander Identification Manual 57th Edition.

If you would like copies of the pages from one of the manuals for these years email me with your email address and I will send them to you.

Also be aware that Ford had two Trucks in 1977, an early and a later. The early had big locking hubs in front and the later had smaller ones.

Hope this helps.

about the hubs... i have a set of warn hubs on my truck now, would i be able to replace the hubs from the doner truck with them? even if it is the small hub 77. the front axle i believe can come from any year 73-77 i just know that the rear end would be better from a 76-77.
